QBE North America announces new leaders, new direction for Program group

New York, NY –  This month QBE North America announced a number of strategic changes to its Program business – its largest business segment – that position it to strengthen its underwriting capacity and deliver more profitable and predictable results

Bob James, President of QBE North America’s Standard and P&C, and head of the Program division says, “We manage over 45 programs and $1.5 billion in revenue. Our goal is to continue to grow this business profitably, and the transitions we are making enable that. “

This month, James announced the following changes to the North America Program division:

The appointment of industry veteran, Bill Sharp as Chief Operating Officer of QBE North America’s Program division. With 32 years of successful leadership, Bill is both a talented and highly-regarded industry executive. He joins QBE from ACE USA, where he was most recently Senior Vice President, COO, Commercial Risk Services Program Division, leading the team responsible for their MGA division. He will assume leadership of delivering increased management and control and supporting new business development in QBE North America’s MGA channel.

Additionally, QBE has realigned the Program Business, organizing around products rather than regions. The leadership changes support this reorganization:

Andrew Cyran has been named SVP, Program Property Leader. Andrew has over 30 years of experience in the Property insurance industry. He has worked in London, Asia and the U.S. with FM Global, St. Paul Insurance, Marsh and ACE and has held a variety of roles including loss control engineering, broking, client servicing and underwriting management. He has been with QBE since 2011.

Brian Janitschke has been named SVP, Program Property Leader. Brian has both Actuarial and underwriting experience at other major insurers. Brian has over 20 years of experience in the insurance industry in Property, Casualty and Professional Liability. He successfully created a Program Administrator, CMJ Underwriters that specializes in New York Habitational risks. Brian has been with QBE since 2010.

Mark Mikulak will serve as SVP, Program Workers Comp Leader, in addition to his role as North America Workers Comp Leader. Mark joined QBE in May 2014 as QBE’s North American Workers Compensation Leader. Mark has over 28 years of WC experience, the majority of which was at two of the largest WC writers (Chubb, Hartford). The WC at Chubb consisted of large high hazard risk management as well as middle market business, i.e. Reuters, Christie’s Auction House, The BBC and V-Tech Toys. The WC at the Hartford included large high hazard risk management accounts including large deductible and retrospectively rated programs.  

David Brodsky will serve as SVP, for Casualty Programs, in addition to his role as North America Casualty Leader. David joined QBE in May 2014 as QBE’s North American Casualty Leader. David has over 35 years of experience in the insurance industry having worked at Home Insurance, Reliance National, Ace USA, Zurich and Tower Group International in positions of increasing responsibility specializing in Casualty underwriting.

Rick Cullen will serve as SVP for the Program’s Central Region. Rick joined QBE in 2009 and has over 24 years of underwriting and business development experience. Rick has held positions of increasing authority in the insurance industry in the Casualty, Property, and Personal Lines areas, having worked at Guaranty National Insurance Co., Unitrin, Kempes (a division of Kemper), WR Berkley and Navigators.
